How did the Black Death start?

The Black Death was often called the Great Plague. Although there were many accusations on how the plague started, scientists say that it was caused by a bacteria called Yersinia pestis. It is believed that the bacteria passed into the human population when rats bit them.. The rats were infected by fleas who gave off the bacteria to them which infected their blood. The rats are said to have come from Asia onboard cargo ships.
